5 Makeup Tips for Young, Glowing Skin at Any Age

Younger Glowing Skin.jpg

Age is the great equalizer. You can use the best eye cream and drink a gallon of water every day. Still, despite our best efforts, we will all get older. I honestly love my 30’s and wouldn’t go back to my 20’s if you paid me. And, how I applied my makeup back then is not flattering now because my skin has changed- creases, dryness, you know the deal.

You may be ready for an update too! Here are some tips that I use to get glowing, younger looking skin. Try them and bring out your inner youthful spirit- no matter your age.

Moisturize- in more ways than one. Use moisturizer,” is not a ground-breaking tip to keep your skin looking youthful. But when applying makeup, there are lots of other ways to get moisture into your face.

(1) Use a moisturizing primer. Yes, after you apply your favorite face lotion, mine is Clinique Moisture Surge, slap on some primer too. My favorite moisturizing/illuminating primers are: Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer and the Becca First Light and Backlight Priming Filter primers.

(2) Opt for cream/liquid over powder for every product you apply to your skin- especially foundation. My favorite moisturizing foundations are: Clinique Even Better Makeup (it improves clarity, tone, and visibly diminishes age spots) and Trish McEvoy Even Skin Water Foundation  (it blurs imperfections and brightens the complexion).

(3) You can also moisturize your skin when applying your foundation. There are a couple ways to do this. First, you can use a dampened Beauty Blender. This is my favorite way to apply foundation. Because it’s quick, easy, and creates a flawless finish. The other option is to use a kabuki brush, like this Morphe one, and spray the brush with a product that contains glycerin. My favorite spray for this technique is MAC Fix Plus- it smells great and gives the skin an instant boost of hydration.

(4) Cream blush gives the skin a youthful wash of color- instead of using a dry powder blush. My favorite is from the brand Doll 10. I received their HydraGel Cream Blush in the shade Flirt in my monthly Ipsy subscription. It is a beautiful rosy, pink shade and has shea butter, avocado butter and jojoba seed oil for added moisture. I have used this blush on clients over 40 and it looks healthy and beautiful. Check out this article for tips on how to apply cream blush.

(5) Lastly, use a liquid highlighter to give your skin a healthy, natural glow. Apply a sheer liquid highlighter on the top of your cheekbones- my favorite is Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid Highlighter in shade Opal. Use your fingers to dab a few dots below your temple and blend it in with a dense brush or beauty sponge. Avoid highlighting any area that has wrinkles like your brow bone or lips.
